Calculators
These calculators run inside the DeckAndShed designer. Each page says what a calculator asks for, what it gives back and what kind of rule it follows.
Planning calculators
- Rafter length Estimate sloped rafter and overhang lengths from a roof run and pitch.
- Hip rafter Estimate hip length and angle from equal plan runs.
- Valley rafter Estimate valley geometry while keeping intersection and load review explicit.
- Jack rafter spacing Roof pitch and rafter spacing to how much shorter each jack rafter gets than the one before it, the line a framer checks on site.
- Gable truss Estimate gable height and top-chord length; web design remains an engineering handoff.
- Gambrel segments Estimate lower and upper gambrel chord segments from the overall span.
- Dormer roof Estimate dormer side-rafter length and flag valley detailing for review.
- Sheet layout Estimate full-sheet count and coverage for a rectangular surface.
- Compound miter Spring angle and corner angle to the saw table (miter) and blade tilt (bevel) settings for a molding or rail cap laid on its back.
- Straight stair Estimate risers, treads, total run, and stringer length.
- L stair Estimate two flights and a quarter-turn landing while keeping the connection under review.
- U stair Estimate two return flights and landing depth while keeping local headroom under review.
- Spiral stair Estimate spiral tread rise, rotation, and walking-line run from explicit turn and center-column topology.
- Baluster spacing Estimate a baluster count and clear spacing for a straight guard run.
- Wall framing Estimate studs and plate length; header selection remains a review handoff.
- Rake wall Estimate stud count and slope angle for unequal wall heights.
- Floor framing Estimate joist count, joist length, and rectangular floor area.
- Project span table Compare a requested joist span with the same AWC table row the deck model uses for this project's species and jurisdiction.
- Miter angle Corner angle and piece count to the per-piece miter cut and the saw setting, for picture frames and border cuts.
- Circle & arc Circumference, arc length and chord for a radius and an angle, the tape numbers for laying out a rounded edge by hand.
Traceable authority calculators
- Common rafter geometry Review evidence for centerline, ridge-face, tail, and birdsmouth geometry. It never authorizes structural notch capacity or permit sizing.
- Span engineering trace Bending, live-load deflection, shear, and bearing review evidence. Current sources remain LOCAL INPUT, so the proposal is BLOCKED.
